Moronic comedy has Poston playing a professor who comes across an ancient coin that gives him unusual powers. Pointing his index finger inflicts pain, shouting the title word "Zotz" makes things move in slow motion, and combining the two causes instant death. He tries to convince his colleagues of his new abilities, but they all think he's crazy, so Poston goes to the Pentagon and offers himself as a new secret weapon. The Army brass are just as convinced as the college board of Poston's wavering sanity but leave it to the Russians to catch on to the idea. They attempt to kidnap him. Poston uses the coin's power to defend himself and then loses the coin in a sewer, after which he returns to the academic, and much more sedate, lifestyle. This is a lesser effort from Castle; the insipid screenplay doesn't give him much to work with. There are some humorous moments, but mostly it's pointless fluff. Theaters gave away Zotz coins at the initial release of the film. This marked one of the final screen appearances for Dumont, long-time leading lady in Marx Brothers films. leave a comment
