A modern-day cautionary tale about promiscuity that adheres to the old Cecil B. DeMille formula: First salivate over the characters' illicit lust, then knock the philanderers off their pins. Account Executive Alan Barnet (Cameron Daddo) nearly resorts to adultery to boost his self-esteem after losing a promotion to co-worker Neil Bradley (Vincent Corazza). Alan's equally dissatisfied wife, Wendy (Brandy Ledford), knows their relationship needs some spicing up. So the Barnets place a wife-swapping ad, and decide a couple named Bauer sound like fun. Alan and Wendy get last-minute cold feet, but Jack (Stephen Baldwin) and Louise Bauer (Kristy Swanson) lead the Barnets down the swingers' garden path. Their relationship revitalized, the Barnets bid the Bauers adieu...or so they think. First the Bauers drop by unannounced at a Barnet family get-together, then Alan learns that that Jack is a close friend of a client he's courting. Alan thinks he knows the price of having Jack put in a good word for him, but he has no idea. Jack unilaterally decides to bludgeon Alan's rival, Neil, and uses Alan's lug-wrench for the deadly job. Jack, a professional security expert, tightens the squeeze on his pigeon by accepting an assignment to outfit Alan's firm with a surveillance system. When Wendy pries into the Bauers' checkered past, Louis retaliates by threatening to show their sexiest home video to Childrens' Protective Services. Too late, Wendy and Alan realize that the Bauers will settle for nothing less than total control, and plan to keep Wendy and Alan as boudoir slaves. How can the Barnets extricate themselves from the grasp of these sickos? In what could be called the poor man's THE COMPANY OF STRANGERS, sophisticates reel in gullible victims through sex before revealing that domination is their ultimate agenda. Though it starts off promisingly, this sex-ercise falters by replacing true psychological tension with a barrage of thriller gimmicks. leave a comment --Robert Pardi
