Because You'Re Mine

Sammy Cahn and Nicholas Brodzsky garnered an Oscar nomination for the title song that Lanza warbles, but that's about all this clunky, trite musical has going for it. Lanza is an opera singer at an army training camp. He is pampered because of his image. He falls for Whitmore's sister, Morrow (a singer in her own right), and a fight ensues. There are a few funny scenes, the best of which is a duet between Whitmore, as a classically oriented noncom, and Lanza. Lots of singing and not much story, but Lanza's fans only cared about his terrific tenor voice. If you like Lanza, you'll go mad for all the opera as well as the pop songs.
