An implausible but entertaining comedy, this film stars the 34-year-old Allyson as a struggling concert pianist who tries her darndest to audition with impresario Johnson. Rebuffed, she resorts to disguising herself as a 14-year-old child prodigy bobby-soxer, complete with braces and a
pigeon-toed walk. Johnson falls for her trick and maintains a healthy, fatherly feeling for the girl, much to the dismay of Allyson. When he notices her fondness for a drink and a cigarette he begins to feel like more than a protector. Her real identity is eventually revealed and romance blooms.
The joke wears thin after a while, as with any film gimmick, but Allyson is able to carry...
