1959, Movie, NR, 61 mins

A wonderfully lurid low-budget film features Selden and Patten as two starry-eyed teenagers who head to Mexico with elopement in mind. They pick up Marlo, a hitchhiker, and their plans are radically changed, to say the least. He's just killed an oil field worker and now wants to give Selden the same treatment so he can have Patten for himself. To add to their problems, Selden and Patten don't want to contact the law, lest it interfere with their intended marriage. When will these kids learn? A good jazz soundtrack and a pseudo-documentary camera style help out. Look for an appearance by Blocker, soon to move to TV's western hit "Bonanza." An early directorial effort for Kershner, who went on to do the excellent THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK for George Lucas' STAR WARS series. The story line bears a strong resemblance to Ida Lupino's THE HITCH-HIKER (1953). leave a comment
