Owner of a successful meat-packing business, Rogers adheres to a rigid schedule, sensing that to deviate in any respect from his rigid habits will bring ruin. His two sons, Dillaway and Ray, are playboys: one a womanizing cafe-goer, the other a Greenwich Village dilettante with arty pretensions. The punctilious Rogers bursts out of his self-imposed confinement when he meets saucy D'Orsay. Now nattily attired, he spends his afternoons at the racetrack with the Gallic girl. He is spotted by his boys at their favorite haunts; his hilarious criticisms at a gallery opening highlight his performance. During the course of his revivification, Rogers even turns heroic, helping D'Orsay escape the ruinous financial scheming of a swindler. His astonished sons are shocked into assuming responsibility for their lives and livelihoods by these paternal peccadilloes. Rogers' relationship with D'Orsay proves to have been platonic as, finally, he helps her to return to her husband. leave a comment
