YOU CAME ALONG tugs at the old heartstrings as three fliers--Cummings, the fun-loving major; DeFore, the intellect; and Drake, the guy with the looks--embark on a promotional tour for bonds with Scott as their guide. Cummings falls in love with Scott, though he keeps her in the dark about his battle with leukemia. They wed, but Scott is soon widowed and consoled by Cummings' fellow fliers. Songs: "You Came Along (from Out of Nowhere)" (Edward Heyman, John Green) and "Kiss the Boys Goodbye" (Frank Loesser, Victor Schertzinger). This is one of three screenplays written by the polemical writer and espouser of "rational selfishness," Ayn Rand, whose influential novel The Fountainhead appeared only two years before YOU CAME ALONG. Scott's second featured role in films won her raves from the critics for her "sonorous speaking voice" and "intriguing manner." One critic went so far as to say she was a "young Garbo." leave a comment
