1942, Movie, NR, 69 mins

Foy is cast as a country boy who has seen so many movies that he can accurately foresee how much money any given film will bring in. Karns, an employee of a failing Hollywood studio, brings Foy back to Hollywood with him where he only gets into trouble. He convinces the studio to cast gangster Dekker in the role of a gangster, while messing around with the thug's sister. Dekker can't act worth a dime, and Foy, of course, is blamed. The finale has Foy getting out of his mess, but not until we hear a few songs: "Comes Love," "It's Me Again," "Let's Make Memories Tonight," "I Can't Afford to Dream" (Lew Brown, Charles Tobias, Sammy Stapt), and "Jim" (Caesar Petrillo, Nelson Shawn, Edward Ross). YOKEL BOY, based on a stage play of the same name (though it bears little resemblance), was originally planned as a vehicle for Judy Canova, who starred in the stage version, but, with no harm to her career, she was dropped. leave a comment
