Steeped in the brazenly corrupt politics of New York City before it was polished and franchised and licensed into a gleaming village, James Gray's follow-up to Little Odessa (1995) is a morality tale in which morals are a miserable liability. Mark Wahlberg stars as a ex-con who gets mixed up in the dirty dealings of his aunt's (Faye Dunaway) new husband (James Caan), a businessman whose business involve bribes and kickbacks and the NYC transit department.
