Anna Paquin, Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee
This Sunday at 9 pm/ET, HBO premieres Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee, a wrenching adaptation of Dee Brown's history of the hardships the Indian nations suffered in late-19th-century America. In it, the quirkily charismatic Anna Paquin plays Elaine Goodale, the wife of a Dartmouth-educated Sioux (SVU's Adam Beach) who devotes her life to the tribe. Stan Lee and His Mosaic
Having celebrated his 84th birthday on Dec. 28, comic-book legend Stan Lee is still as exuberant and industrious as ever. In 2005, the man responsible for creating or cocreating Spider-Man, X-Men, the Fantastic Four, the Incredible Hulk and dozens of other Marvel characters formed POW! Entertainment with partners Gill Champion and Arthur Lieberman. The company's first release is the animated tale Mosaic, arriving in stores today on DVD. It's the story of a teenage girl (voiced by Anna Paquin) who's given the responsibility of saving the world after being transformed into a chameleon-like creature. How did 2006's film fare fare compared to the year before? Thanks in part to Pirates of the Carribean: Dead Man's Chest ( which broke too many records to regurgitate here) and despite a somewhat lackluster holiday season, the final box-office tally is headed toward $9.42 billion, marking an increase of about five percent versus 2005. Before you crow, "Well, weren't ticket prices up at least five percent?" the Hollywood Reporter points out that the number of actual tickets sold — 1.44 billion — was up nearly three percent.Joining POTC 2 ($423.3 million) in this year's elite $200 mil-plus club were Cars ($244.1 mil), X-Men: The Last Stand ($234.4 mil), The Da Vinci Code ($217.5 mil) and Superman Returns ($200.1 mil).

Fox is rush-releasing X-Men: The Last Stand to hi-def Blu-ray DVD on Nov. 14, in time for the debut of the PlayStation 3, which boasts a Blu-ray player.... Inney Prakash of Farmington Hills, Michigan, is the grand-prize winner of The Simpsons' "Treehouse of Horror XVII: Slice-Dice-and-Win" contest. As such, the 14-year-old will see his homemade promo air during this Sunday's episode, as well as receive a trip for two to The Simpsons' May 2007, 400th-episode L.A. gala.... To better compete with Netflix, Blockbuster is now allowing online rentals to be returned in stores.

X-Men: The Last Stand topped the DVD sales and rental charts last week by selling 5 million units and generating $10.5 million in rental revenue.... Sharon Stone will cohost the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize Concert in Oslo, Norway, on Dec. 11.... The 2006 Billboard Music Awards will air Dec. 4 on Fox.... The N will premiere its first sketch-comedy special, The Brandon T. Jackson Show, on Nov. 24 at 9 pm/ET. Celeb guests will include Wayne Brady, Sinbad and Nelly Furtado.
