Broadway newspaper columnist Ford is embroiled in a murder case when a showgirl, who had been suing his paper for libel, is found murdered shortly after Ford interviewed her in her apartment. Of course, Ford is accused, but he quickly discovers the real killer to be a man he had previously met. All comes to a head in the courtroom and in a final climactic scene in which Ford is forced to engage in a gun battle after he's locked in a room with the killer. The drama tries hard to have a realistic newspaper look, with busy city rooms, but instead looks like the Hollywood B picture it is. The script was cowritten by a former New York newspaperman and the producers originally wanted Walter Winchell for an added touch of realism. However, his paper refused to give him time off for filmmaking, and thus Ford was cast. leave a comment
