World In My Corner

Tommy Shea (Audie Murphy) is a poor kid from the ghetto who quickly rises in the ranks of welterweight competition but never gets a chance at a title fight. Anxious to wed his girl (Barbara Rush) and get her away from her overbearing father, Tommy agrees to throw a bout against the champ (played by real-life boxer Chico Vejar) in exchange for a hefty amount of cash, but the decision gnaws at his conscience. This standard Murphy vehicle is enlivened somewhat by the well-directed boxing scenes and relatively authentic milieu.
