Words And Music

1929, Movie, NR, 72 mins

John Wayne (here billed as Duke Morrison) took sixth billing in this standard musical exercise. He is a composer in competition with Percy to take a $1,500 college prize for the best show tune. Moran agrees to sing for both of them but chooses Percy as her beau; Percy's also is the winning tune. The story, as usual in this sort of picture, is negligible, with concentration on Moran's musical talent. Her numbers were reportedly outtakes from MOVIETONE FOLLIES OF 1929 that had to be used somehow. Songs include: "Too Wonderful for Words" (William Kernell, Dave Stamper, Paul Gerard Smith, Edmund Joseph), "Stepping Along" (Kernell), "Shadows" (Con Conrad, Sidney Mitchell, Archie Gottler). leave a comment
