Erich von Stroheim wrote the soapy story for this sappy saga of Tone, an earnest surgeon who is in love with petite O'Sullivan. She loves him as well, but is trapped in a marriage with a layabout alcoholic (Nace), and her nursely compassion knows no bounds, so she is not about to leave the lad.
