Based on Wilkie Collins' 1860 gothic novel, this eerie mood piece features the superb Sidney Greenstreet as an unscrupulous count bent on wresting a fortune away from poor Eleanor Parker. After plotting to marry her off to his partner in crime (John Emery, Greenstreet works on the woman's twin sister (Parker, in a dual role) by having the sibling committed to an insane asylum.
