A ludicrous thriller starring Maxwell as the wife of an insane killer found guilty of murder and jailed. Maxwell assumes a new identity and remarries. Her old identity is only known to her boss, Sinclair. Soon after beginning her new life, her ex-husband, Moore, escapes prison. Detective Henreid is hot on his trail but to his surprise discovers that the fugitive is not insane after all and has escaped to seek the man who framed him. In the end, it is revealed that Sinclair is the real culprit, but he manages to get himself killed in the climactic chase. An early effort from the newly formed Hammer Studios and its premier director Terence Fisher. Both the studio and Fisher would soon start a new, more bloody revival of the horror film with THE CURSE OF FRANKENSTEIN (1957) and HORROR OF DRACULA (1958). leave a comment
