The fifth and final American film of one of France's greatest directors, Jean Renoir, is an accomplished piece of filmmaking that probes the relationship between a combat-battered veteran (Robert Ryan), a mysterious gold digger (Joan Bennet) and her blind husband (Charles Bickford).
