The story of a divorced mother, Susan Selky (Kate Nelligan), whose worst nightmares are realized when her 6-year-old son, Alex (Danny Corkhill), disappears. Al Menetti (Judd Hirsch) is the New York cop who takes charge of the case and relentlessly searches for the lost boy. The story is
told with uncharacteristic restraint and benefits from fine performances by Nelligan and Hirsch. Based on an actual case, this picture, and a made-for-TV counterpart, ADAM, helped raise public consciousness with respect to missing children.
