The central premise of WITHOUT A CLUE is that Dr. John Watson (Ben Kingsley) is the real crime solver and that Sherlock Holmes (Michael Caine) is actually an undistinguished actor by the name of Reginald Kincaid. For professional reasons, Watson invented Sherlock Holmes, hired Kincaid, and presented him to the world as the great sleuth. But Kincaid, an inveterate drunk, has grown too big for his deerstalker.
