Writing, directing, and starring in WISDOM, Emilio Estevez was in over his head. It's a well-intentioned project that shows a certain promise and visual flair, but fails to come together as anything more than an expensive film-school thesis project. John Wisdom (Estevez) is a 23-year-old street kid who is having trouble finding a job because of his police record. Discouraged by his failures, he turn to crime. Inspired by a television report on bank loan foreclosures, Wisdom launches a scheme with his girl Karen (Demi Moore). WISDOM has serious plot problems, merely passable performances, and some downright silly dialogue. Somewhere underneath the clumsiness and inexperience, however, lurks a modicum of unrealized filmmaking talent. leave a comment
