Winstanley

Originally released in 1975, WINSTANLEY is a historical drama detailing the rise of a religious sect known as the Diggers, following the beginnings of the Protestant Reformation. Halliwell plays Winstanley, the leader of the movement and an advocate of nonviolence, who organizes his people to work farmland that the rich are not using. The landowners, however, force the Diggers from their makeshift homes with violence and destruction. Brownlow and Mollo, who collaborated on 1964's IT HAPPENED HERE, accurately recreate 17th-century England in costuming and design.
