Backstage life is brought to the screen again in this tightly knit but sometimes vulgar little entertainment, with Cody taking the role of a tyrannical theatrical magnate who pushes chorine Tashman to the edge. Along the way she promises Cody her daughter if the magnate takes her from the
chorus line to stardom, as offensive a bargain as any movie character has ever made. However, Tashman atones for it by poisoning Cody's champagne, and the daughter and her real boy friend are in a till-death-do-us-part clinch at the end. Both Cody, who had been one of the silent era's most
well-known villains, and Tashman died the year of the film's release.
