Curtis is an American musician working in Paris. He literally bumps into Kaufmann, a film star, while she is chasing her runaway poodle, Monsieur Cognac. The dog is aptly named, for he loves alcohol. So does Curtis, and the two end up going out on a drinking spree. Kaufmann and her father, Aubuchon, find the two together. She falls in love with Curtis, and they marry over Aubuchon's objections. Monsieur Cognac has some objections of his own, becoming quite jealous of Curtis and ruining the couple's wedding night. Kaufmann cannot give up the dog for the honeymoon, which brings about the parting of the pair. Curtis saves his marriage, though, by finding Pink Poupee, a lady poodle that sets Monsieur Cognac's tail wagging. He and Kaufmann make up, and all ends happily for both couples. This is an amiable comedy with enough cute elements to overcome the one-joke aspects of the screenplay. It's fun in its own way, and (of course) the dog ends up stealing the show. Surprisingly, it took three writers to come up with the screenplay from a screen story by two others. Rather than shoot the movie in Paris, the producer decided to recreate Montmartre on the studio backlot. Curtis and Kaufmann--married in real life at the time--play well together.
