1949, Movie, NR, 90 mins

Along the lines of REEFER MADNESS, this "evils of marijuana" film shows the awful effects the drug can have on people. Leeds is a chorus girl who hits the "wild weed," becomes an addict, and at last kicks the habit. She then turns to the side of the law and helps the police crack a drug ring. WILD WEED offers a few laughs with its hallucinatory camera effects. The picture was an obvious and shameful attempt to cash in on the nationwide headlines generated by its beautiful blonde star and Robert Mitchum, who were arrested in Leeds' home on September 1, 1948, in a narcotics raid, and charged with conspiracy to possess marijuana. leave a comment
