Wild Things 2: Review
This gleefully seamy direct-to-DVD sequel to 1998 B-movie classic keeps you guessing be sure not to miss the post-credit sequence that fills in the plot’s blanks. Poor little rich girl Brittney Havers (Susan Ward) of ritzy Blue Bay, Florida, is simultaneously mourning her mother's recent death and making the most of life with her high-rolling stepfather, Niles Dunlap (Tony Denison). Niles runs up some serious gambling debts and Brittney witnesses a mob flunky menacing her stepdad on their mansion's surveillance camera; soon after, Niles' private plane crashes. Detective Morrison (Linden Ashby) suspects foul play but misinterprets the available clues, while cocky insurance investigator Terence Bridge (Isaiah Washington) not only smells a rat but
finds
one in the charred fuselage. As the homicide investigation stagnates, Brittney's high school nemesis, Maya King (Leila Arcieri), makes the startling claim that she's Niles' love child, which makes her claim to his estate more legitimate than that of a mere stepdaughter. Coroner Julian Hayes (Joe Michael Burke) corroborates the DNA evidence and Maya assumes the mantle of sole heiress. What neither Morrison nor Bridge realizes is that bisexual hotties Maya and Brittney are lovers, partners in crime and two-thirds of a threesome whose third piece is Hayes himself. Bridge, who knows that this case could make or break his career, digs up the truth about Maya's real parentage in a bayou graveyard. After Bridge starts dropping hints about he's found and what he's beginning to theorize, Hayes freaks out and become expendable to the girls' plan. Bridge wants cut in on Maya and Brittney's action, but they cleverly videotape his pitch, checkmating his efforts at extortion. But who's going to inherit Niles' estate remains an open question, especially when it appears that certain "dead" people may actually be alive and well. Though it lacks the star-power, and therefore much of the shock value of its predecessor, this knock-off thriller still steams up the screen. And even if you keep careful track of every piece of the puzzle, there's still plenty of sizzling sexual duplicity to keep you entertained.
