My Wild Irish Rose

Hollywood went through a spate of musicals based on the lives of famous song composers. Warner Brothers had just about run out of these when along came the story of Chauncey Olcott, composer of "My Wild Irish Rose" and "Mother Machree." If the real Olcott led the life that this film depicts, then the Irish's reputation for drink is understandable. Morgan in the lead role gets involved with famed vaudevillian Lillian Russell (played by King). The only real standout is Dahl, in one of her first roles, as the alderman's daughter whom Morgan finally marries. Confusingly told, the story is dotted with dance numbers and Olcott's songs.
