Wild At Heart: Review

Released at the height of Twin Peaks's popularity, David Lynch's follow-up to Blue Velvet won the Cannes Film Festival's Palme d'Or, but inexplicably failed to win an American audience. Based on the novel by Barry Gifford, it lacks the originality of Lynch's other films, but it's still a wild ride: wacky, occasionally inventive and always violent. It's the story of Sailor (Nicolas Cage) and Lula (Laura Dern), who are in love and on the run from Lula's vengeful mama (Diane Ladd, Dern's real-life mother).
