My Wife's Husband: Review

Comedian Fernandel is a French prisoner of war during WW II who escapes and hides out at an inn run by Carriere. When the war ends, Fernandel decides to stay with her and help her run the inn instead of returning home to his wife. Ten years later Carriere's husband returns, so she sends Fernandel back to his wife, where he finds much has changed in the last decade. His little cafe has expanded and his wife is now married to Bourvil, Fernandel's former chef. Seeing that Fernandel is still alive, Maurier refuses to sleep with Bourvil until Fernandel gives her a divorce. Feeling he is out of the picture, Bourvil returns home to Normandy. Fernandel goes after Bourvil and tells him he will grant the divorce if Bourvil will come back and marry Maurier and take responsibility for the restaurant. Alone now, Fernandel becomes depressed until Carriere shows up and tells him that her husband has left for Siberia and that they are now free to wed. leave a comment
