1962, Movie, NR, 93 mins

In an unusual teaming, Martin and Turner are husband and wife. He loves to play the ponies so she arranges, via Martin's law partner, Albert, to become his bookie, thus keeping his losses in the family. Things get tricky when Martin goes on a winning streak, and mob boss Matthau starts getting curious as to who the bookie is that Martin has been deaing with. This comedy of errors has its moments but for the most part it's a flat story without much style. The direction moves sluggishly and the result is strained humor with only flashes of wit. The Martin-Turner team is okay but both clearly were cast in the wrong film. Oddly enough, this light comedy was from the director of such heavy-duty dramas as BUTTERFIELD 8, THE ROSE TATTOO, and I'LL CRY TOMORROW. leave a comment
