When an ocean liner strikes a derelict ship and begins to sink, Connolly, a noted theatrical figure, helps save the women and children and then dresses as a woman to save his own skin. Returning home, he finds that he is assumed dead and is mourned as a hero. He's forced to remain "dead"
to save his family from disgrace and himself from charges of cowardice. This spotty drama swings between ludicrousness and sincerity, but Connolly gives an excellent performance as the tortured lead.
