WHITE MAN'S BURDEN
starstarstarstar
The kind of thing that passed for satire on Twilight Zone. Screenwriter and first-time director Desmond Nakano takes a gimmicky premise -- an America in which blacks are the privileged elite and whites are the oppressed minority -- and fashions a painfully obvious message movie. John Travolta is a rough-edged, hard-working guy who can't get a break because smug racists like Harry Belafonte have all the power. His son won't play with a white-skinned action figure because all the real superheroes are black. Condescending African-American women coo about how cute little white children are. You can guess the rest. This well-intentioned, heavy-handed parable might conceivably be an eye-opener for children, but it's R-rated -- so what's the point? leave a comment
