Aspiring detective-story writer Truex, eloping with Merkel, wanders into the den of a baron of booze, where--to impress his bride--he regales the crime kingpin and his henchmen with the plot for a perfect murder. The nabob of the underworld decides to use Truex's scheme to safely eliminate a rival owner of speakeasies.
