A second-rate gangster film with a fine cast but no spark. Gardner is from a tank town. She's gone to the big city and come back with money in her purse and mink on her back. When she departed, she'd been having a torrid affair with low-life Raft, but he wouldn't change his lazy ways, so she left him. Now, she hopes he's learned his lesson and will give up his card-playing, sleep-all-day existence. Time hasn't changed Raft, though, and he is still mired in his ways, so Gardner turns her attention to Conway, the local club owner who has the money and the time to lavish his attentions on her.
