Interesting depiction of a father-daughter relationship, woven into a variety of interesting settings. Holt plays a carnival owner saddled with a murder charge that leaves him with a 20-year sentence. His newlywed wife, who is pregnant, is led to believe that her husband has committed suicide, so she goes on to marry another man to provide a decent home for her child. Daughter Arthur grows up to become a beautiful woman, finally meeting her father in the nightclub that Holt has taken over after his release from prison. Holt is anxious to make up for all the lost time, but trouble can't seem to keep from crossing his path. This time a crooked lawyer discovers the ghosts in Holt's closet. To prevent his identity from being revealed, Holt murders the blackmailer, but even that doesn't bring an end to his problems. Though the picture tends to be a little sappy, for the most part it is a well-scripted and finely tuned effort. leave a comment
