Where Do We Go From Here?

This whimsical musical fantasy with songs by Kurt Weill and Ira Gershwin is fairly pleasant, if silly, fare. Bill (Fred MacMurray) would like to sign up and fight in WW II, but minor physical problems keep him out, so he does the next best thing and goes to work for the USO. Idly polishing a lamp donated in a scrap drive one day, Bill is surprised to discover that the item harbors a genie (Gene Sheldon). The genie's magic is pretty rusty, however, and he grants Bill's wish to join the service by sending him back in time to revolutionary America under the command of George Washington (Alan Mowbray).
