WHERE EVIL LIES is so completely terrible that there seems little point to using the space to pan it, except perhaps as a warning to others.

Alex (Nikki Fritz), an exotic dancer, is being photographed by her boyfriend, Kurt (Emile Levisetti), who has set up an audition for her at the Tiger Bar. She goes that night with Sara (Melissa Park), the girlfriend of Kurt's roommate, David (Mark Kinsey Stephenson). Upon arriving, they are given drugged drinks and taken prisoner with several other girls. The next morning, David begins to worry. Not only are the girls missing, but Sara, a diabetic, has forgotten her insulin.

Kurt goes to the club, where it becomes clear that he has tricked the girls. He fronts a white slavery ring run by his father, Colonel Howard (Bob McFarland), and is involved with Sadako (Roma Court), the club's manager. David follows him there but at first does not find anything. Meanwhile, the girls try to dupe Sadako's bodyguard into setting them free; in anger, he brutally murders one of them, then dismembers her body and feeds it to a dog. David discovers the girls but is cornered by Kurt, who stabs him. David grabs the knife and kills Kurt, then gets the keys to set the girls free. Colonel Howard arrives, has Sadako killed, then shoots Sara himself. Sara and David are taken away in an ambulance. The final scene shows them recovered just as Colonel Howard enters their room with a gunman.

It is almost impossible to imagine the audience for which this film was made. The plot is unsubtle, the sex unrealistic, and the production terrible. Dialogue is swallowed, one character is called by two different names, another leaves a business card for his (illegal) organization in his own Rolodex! There are two long erotic dance sequences that reek of filler. Worst of all, nothing can make up for the disgusting turn to the gruesome that the film takes with the dismemberment scenes. It is as if the filmmakers confused genres and thought this was a horror film. WHERE EVIL LIES is totally worthless. Stay away! (Extensive nudity, graphic violence, profanity.) leave a comment
