When a producer is looking for assured success at the box office, it's usually a safe bet to take some tried and true material, give it modern settings and situations, and release it to the public as something new. Katzman did just that by taking twice-made GIRL CRAZY, (once with Mickey Rooney and Judy Garland), inserting some then-popular tunes and old favorites, and having Francis and Presnell try to duplicate the energy of their predecessors. The result was a far cry from the originals but not without merit, with ingeniously conceived comic routines and exceptional music performances. The plot is pure hokum.
