When Love Comes

Five and a half characters go in search of themselves and something to do in this well-acted but negligible romantic drama from New Zealand director Garth Maxwell. Thirtysomething Aukland waiter Stephen (Simon Prast) has the bad luck to fall in love with Mark (Dean O'Gorman), an attractive but self-absorbed hustler/songwriter whom Stephen once paid for sex. Looks aside, Mark isn't anyone's idea of good boyfriend material: He drinks and drugs to excess, his insecurities prevent him from ever really connecting with another person, and he's still in the game.
