This isn't so much a film as it is a vanity project for its executive producer-director-star, country singer Jerry Reed. He plays--surprise, surprise--Joe Hawkins, a country singer who's been in the business for a quarter of a century. His years on the road have taken a toll, for Hawkins is a burnt-out, pill-popping booze hound. His personal manager has used the star's addled state to his advantage, cheating Hawkins out of $8 million. But Hawkins' brother (Bo Hopkins) catches onto the scam. To be kind, Reed is a talented singer who is at his best when he sticks to vinyl. Though passable as an actor, he shows no competence behind the camera. The already cliched story is so lamely told that it's hard to care about any of Reed's trials and tribulations. leave a comment
