A very intelligent picture that needs to be looked at closely in order to fathom some of its subtleties. David Hare, the playwright of PLENTY, wrote and directed this film, and it's a corker. Wetherby is a small, cold town in Yorkshire. Jean Travers (Vanessa Redgrave) is a local teacher who never married. Her teenage crush was killed in Malaya in the 1950s, and she has never gotten over it.
