The title refers to a futuristic Disney-type fantasy land which features android Western figures. Benjamin and Brolin are two businessman who come to WESTWORLD to live out their fantasies, and Brynner is the robot Benjamin kills in a saloon fight. Suddenly everything goes haywire, and the machines stalk the visitors. Brynner guns down Brolin, and chases Benjamin. Brynner is very good, his austere presence and unflinching intent making him seem indestructible. The film grossed a healthy $3.4 million in the US and Canada and was the last film from MGM before it dissolved its releasing company. Ten minutes have been deleted from the original footage to allow WESTWORLD's present PG rating. The gardens of movie comedian Harold Lloyd's estate were used for some of the amusement park sequences. The film was followed by a sequel, FUTUREWORLD. leave a comment
