Westbound

In the midst of a number of fine Westerns, Boetticher churned out this barely sufficient actioner which has little of the energy of his other projects. Scott is a Union officer assigned the task of starting a coach line and delivering gold shipments to the North from California. Duggan is trying to intercept the line and send the gold to the Confederates, but eventually he gets killed trying to defend Scott against his own (Duggan's) men. His dying wish is that Mayo, his soon-to-be widow, be taken care of by Scott. Steele, who also appeared in THE RISE AND FALL OF LEGS DIAMOND (1960), was at the time Boetticher's wife.
