The opening of GO WEST finds slick-talking Groucho being outwitted by Chico and Harpo in a very funny sequence, but much of the rest of the film simply doesn't live up to its promise. The plot has something to do with a land deed, but it's really an excuse for the Marxes to clown around.
At the studio's insistence, a thoroughly boring romantic sub-plot was grafted onto the story. Chico gets a piano solo, and Harpo turns an Indian loom into his namesake instrument. Groucho sings, looking completely bored with the whole process. The brothers best work was clearly behind them by
