Little Shirley Temple works her charms on India in this starring vehicle, which is very loosely based on a Rudyard Kipling story and directed by, of all people, John Ford, best known for his classic westerns. At the turn of the century, Priscilla (Shirley Temple) and her widowed mother (June Lang) go to live with her grandfather, Col. Williams (C. Aubrey Smith), on a British army base in India. Priscilla goes through maneuvers with the troops, donning a darling pint-sized uniform and managing to win over everyone she comes in contact with, including rebel leader Khoda Khan (Cesar Romero). The entire political situation is solved when Priscilla asks why the two factions are mad at each other, thus bringing about a peaceful resolution. leave a comment
