A powerful subject is admirably handled as Pleasence, a former soldier, must face the fact that his teenage daughter, Kane, has been raped and (as they soon find out) impregnated by an Army pal of her brother's. Set during WW II, the film's atmosphere is sharply detailed, and great care
is given to the father and daughter characters, brilliantly played by Pleasence and Kane, acting in accordance with the circumstances as they would have most logically developed during that period. The Canadian Film Awards designated it Best Picture of the Year in 1972.
