Toward the end of World War II, a group of youthful Japanese volunteer to join an army band, hoping that this duty will keep them from combat. However, they are soon sent to the Chinese front to help boost morale. Attacked and brutally beaten by the Chinese, the survivors end up in a POW
camp. This film is interesting for its glimpses of Japanese basic training during the war as well as life in the combat zone.
