The first talkie send-up of the western genre, this benchmark picture features the fast-talking Haines as a carnival trickster forced into ranch work by his victims, a group of tough cowboys. Trusted by innocent blonde ranch owner Hyams, Haines is sent off in her automobile to make a large
cash deposit in her bank. After wrestling with his conscience, the suave swindler decides that he likes the girl too much to follow his nature, so he returns to the ranch. Jealous top hand Bushman, Jr. engages Haines in some fisticuffs, but in the end the rascal redeems himself, saving Hyams in a
sandstorm and winning her heart and the respect of his former adversaries.
