A wacky British comedy about a family of eccentrics. Sykes, the father, is building a replica of the Old Bailey courts in the living room. His wife, Leggatt, hires a maid to eat the family's leftovers, and their daughter, Foster, spends her time watching apes in the zoo. Son Miller is trying to get his collection of weight scales to play a musical piece. Sykes holds a mock trial, with his son as the murder defendant and his wife playing the main witness. His son is found innocent, and that night he gets his scales to play George Frederick Handel's "Hallelujah Chorus" from "The Messiah," making it impossible for his father to sleep. Antic happenings by these spirited characters skirt chaos, but director Yates keeps a rein on it all throughout. leave a comment
