A triumph for director Elia Kazan, star Marlon Brando, composer Leonard Bernstein, perhaps above all, cinematographer Boris Kaufman. Lee J. Cobb is a gangster union boss, Rod Steiger his crooked lawyer. Brando plays the shyster's younger brother, a never-was boxer who hangs around the docks, runs errands for the boss man and dreams about his days as an promising fighter.
