Another in the series of paranoia-conspiracy films that leaped to the screen around the time of Watergate. This one stars Keach as a fanatical government agent whose by-the-book handling of cases erodes his support among fellow agents. He also has a split personality that turns him into a mafia gangster. Of course, these opposing instincts cause Keach mental turmoil, and he begins to feel that fellow agent Yulin is out to get him. WATCHED is a confused and at times even ludicrous film that tries too hard to be socially significant while indulging in some irritating camerawork that distracts from the story. Unfortunately, not even such solid actors as Keach and Yulin can rescue this film from the bog of self-importance it is mired in. The musical score was written and performed by the popular jazz-fusion group Weather Report. leave a comment
